Extension Privacy Policy

Last Updated: February 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy specifically covers the Hue Write Chrome Extension ("Extension"). For our web application privacy policy, please visit huewrite.com/privacy.

1. Overview

The Hue Write Extension is a browser extension that helps you humanize AI-generated text directly within any website. This policy explains what data the Extension collects, how it's used, and your rights regarding that data.

2. What the Extension Does

The Extension provides inline text humanization across any website. When you focus on a text input field, textarea, or content-editable element, the Extension displays a floating widget that allows you to:

  • Select text you want to humanize
  • Choose from various tonality options (standard, professional, friendly, formal, casual, academic, creative)
  • Enable Ultra Mode for extended AI thinking
  • View your usage statistics and remaining credits
  • Undo/redo text changes

3. Permissions Requested

The Extension requests the following permissions and here's why:

storage

Purpose: To securely store your authentication tokens and preferences locally in your browser.

What we store:

  • Access token and refresh token (for authentication)
  • Token expiration time
  • Your email address
  • Text insertion mode preference (instant, typing-slow, typing-medium, typing-fast)
  • Language preference
  • Usage statistics cache (words used, limit, reset date)

All data is stored locally using Chrome's storage API and is never shared with third parties.

Host Permissions (Narrowly Scoped)

Purpose: To communicate with specific Hue Write API endpoints only. The Extension requests access to 6 narrowly-scoped API endpoints (no wildcards) for:

  • User authentication and secure token management
  • Text humanization processing
  • Subscription status verification
  • Available writing style options

What we send:

  • Authentication requests (email, authorization codes)
  • Text you choose to humanize
  • Selected tonality and Ultra Mode preferences
  • Requests for usage statistics

All communication uses secure HTTPS connections with Bearer token authentication. These narrowly-scoped permissions represent the absolute minimum required for the Extension to function. No other hosts or broader patterns are requested.

4. Data Collection and Usage

4.1 Personal Information

What we collect:

  • Email address (for account authentication)
  • Authentication tokens (access token, refresh token)

How we use it:

  • To authenticate your account and maintain your login session
  • To associate your usage with your subscription plan
  • To provide personalized features based on your plan tier

Storage: Stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local API. Tokens are also stored on our servers (see our main privacy policy for server-side data handling).

4.2 Text Content

What we collect:

  • Text content that you explicitly choose to humanize

How we use it:

  • To process and humanize the text using our AI models
  • To calculate word count for usage tracking

Storage: Text is transmitted to our servers via HTTPS, processed, and returned. We do not permanently store the text you humanize unless required for service operation (see our main privacy policy for details).

Important: The Extension only accesses text from fields you actively focus on and only sends text when you explicitly click the "Humanize" button. We never collect text from pages you're simply browsing.

4.3 Usage Statistics

What we collect:

  • Number of words processed
  • Usage limits and remaining credits
  • Subscription plan information
  • Reset date for usage limits

How we use it:

  • To display your current usage and remaining credits
  • To enforce subscription limits
  • To provide accurate billing

Storage: Cached locally for 5 minutes to reduce API calls. Authoritative data is stored on our servers.

4.4 User Preferences

What we collect:

  • Text insertion mode (instant, typing simulation speed)
  • Language preference
  • Last selected tonality

How we use it:

  • To remember your preferences across sessions
  • To provide a personalized experience

Storage: Stored locally in your browser only. Never sent to our servers.

5. Data We Do NOT Collect

The Extension explicitly does NOT collect:

  • Browsing history or websites you visit
  • Text from pages you're not actively using
  • Passwords or sensitive form data
  • Credit card or payment information
  • Location data or IP addresses (beyond standard HTTP requests)
  • Personal communications (emails, messages, etc.)
  • Health or financial information
  • Keystroke logging or mouse tracking
  • Screenshots or page content beyond focused text fields

6. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do NOT sell or share your data with third parties for marketing, advertising, or any purpose unrelated to providing the Extension's core functionality.

Data is only shared with:

  • Hue Write API servers: To process authentication and text humanization requests
  • AI service providers: Text is processed by our AI models (see main privacy policy for details)

All data transmission uses encrypted HTTPS connections.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • All API communication uses HTTPS encryption
  • Authentication tokens are stored securely using Chrome's storage API
  • Tokens automatically expire and refresh to minimize exposure
  • Security errors trigger automatic logout and credential clearing
  • No sensitive data is logged to browser console in production

8. Data Retention

Local Storage: Data stored in your browser (tokens, preferences) remains until you:

  • Log out of the Extension
  • Uninstall the Extension
  • Clear your browser's extension data

Server-Side Storage: See our main privacy policy at huewrite.com/privacy for information about data retention on our servers.

9. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: View your stored data by opening the Extension popup
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data from Settings
  • Opt-out: Uninstall the Extension at any time from chrome://extensions
  • Data Portability: Request a copy of your data by contacting support
  • Correction: Update your email or preferences through your account settings

10. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

11. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes:

  • The "Last Updated" date at the top will be revised
  • Significant changes will be communicated through the Extension or via email
  • Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance

12. Compliance

This Extension complies with:

  • Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies
  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
  • Other applicable data protection laws
